Kashmir Curfew: Six Months On, Food Stocks are Almost Depleted

Today marks 6 months since curfew restrictions began in Kashmir. Since August 5th 2019, communications in Kashmir have been cut off, and poor communities are now coping with skyrocketing food prices, closed roads and markets, and soaring accommodation and transport rates. Years of political instability have taken their toll of the people of Kashmir, and the latest crisis has made the even more than vulnerable.

With your support, ½ñÈÕ´ó¹Ï has been working with partners on the ground in Anantnag and Pulwama since the beginning of the crisis, distributing emergency relief such as vital food, medicine and winter kits.

It is our responsibility to help those in need, and alhamdulillah, you have come out in force to help vulnerable families in Kashmir since August 2019.

Today, six months on, communities in Kashmir are even more vulnerable. Even in August, food supplies were running low, but now stocks of food within Kashmir are almost completely depleted.ÌýOur partners on the ground urgently need you donate more food packs so we can reach curfew-affected areas with emergency food items.

Our partners on the ground have over 25 years of experience working in Indian-administered Kashmir and are one of the few charities who have curfew passes. This allows them to travel into curfew zones and ensure your aid is being delivered.Ìý

The Qur'an instructs us to help those in need, and you have continuously shown mercy and compassion to those suffering, providing them and their families relief.

Alhamdulillah, your donations have helped almost 78,000Ìýbeneficiaries so far.

This includes distributingÌý15,500 medical kits, running an ambulance service in rural communities and providingÌý35, 250 food packs. On top of this, your donations to the Winter Fund have provided items such as blankets, warm clothing, winter coats, shoes and socks and firewood to poor families. Your incredible generosity is helping us feed the people of Kashmir and keep them warm, healthy and alive.Ìý

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘The example of the believers in their affection, mercy and compassion for each other is that of a body. When one limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever’. (Bukhari)

Six months on, we are calling on you to continue showing your 'affection, mercy and compassion' to the people of Kashmir. Please do continue supporting, please do continue giving.
