When is Muharram?
The new Hijri year will begin on the night of 26th June 2025, dependent on when the new moon is sighted, signalling the beginning of 1447 AH.听

Muharram has many virtues because it is a sacred month. But what exactly is a sacred month and how many are in the Islamic lunar year? Find out more in Episode 2:

Muharram is known as the 'sacred month of Allah' - it is truly an elite month since Allah's name has been attached to it! Watch Episode 3 to find out how the Prophet (saw) talked about this month.

Allah says in the Qur'an, 'And We certainly sent Musa with Our signs, [saying], "Bring out your people from layers of darkness into the light and听remind them of the days of Allah".听Indeed in that are surely signs for everyone who is patient and grateful.' [Qur鈥檃n, 14:5]

As mentioned in the above video, one of the days of Allah is 'Ashura, 10th Muharram, which has many virtues we can benefit from. When is Ashura? This Muharram, 'Ashura will fall on 5th July 2025, depending on the moon sighting.

The day of 'Ashura also has much historical significance, including being the day Nuh (as) ark landed on Mount Judiyy, as detailed in Episode 6 below.

Because 'Ashura was significant to many of the Prophets (as), including Nuh and Musa (as), even pre-Islamic societies acknowledged and respected it!听Aishah (ra) said, 'The people used to fast on 鈥橝shura before the fasting of Ramadan was made obligatory. And on that day the Ka鈥榖ah used to be covered with a cover.' [Bukhari]
